Oscar Review

The 2011 Oscars were last night! I came in LAST place in predicting the winners at our Oscar party, but really, let's not joke around - I'm there for the dresses, right? Congrats to Amanda who left us ALL behind in getting the most winners correct. So below are the dresses (and the tux) that made the biggest impression on me.

Oddly enough, this was my favorite dress of host Anne Hathaway.  It's a mix of crazy-blue-patent-leather-slash-plastic by Giorgio Armani Prive, but I love it!

Poor Cate Blanchett, this is on my worst dressed list.  Art piece?  Its great.  Dress?  Not so much.  Sorry Givenchy, not my favorite.

I just kept waiting for a wardrobe malfunction to happen on this little number worn by Mila Kunis from Elie Saab.  Its beautiful, but I was concerned for her!

And Robert Downey Jr. wins award for the best tux!

The Challenge: The Clothing!

Below are the fifteen items I chose for my challenge.  I knew I needed several layering pieces and I also needed some basic pieces. I added in a few colors to keep my options open.  If I picked only one color scheme, say black and white, I would have gone crazy by day 5.  Hopefully my choices are as good as I think!
1. Gray double-breasted coat by Calvin Klein Jeans
2. Red wrap t-shirt by Theory
3. Dark wash bootcut jeans by Gap
4. Blue sweater by Banana Republic
5. Dark wash jean jacket by White House Black Market
6. White t-shirt by DownEast Basics
7. Navy button down dress by Layers Clothing
8. White button down with black dots by New York and Company
9. Black t-shirt by Express
10. White, coral, and gray button down by New York and Company
11. Light wash skinny jean by Gap
12. Black pencil skirt by Gap
13. Black coat by AK Anne Klein
14. Black boyfriend sweater by Ann Taylor Loft
15. Coral sweater by The Limited

The challenge starts tomorrow, any other brave souls ready to start as well?

The Image Envy Challenge!

From full-time working gal to full-time mom, I have found my wardrobe needs have changed, not necessarily for the better.  I try not to be a "throw on a t-shirt, whatever pants are closest, and run out the door" type of mom, but when you're constantly being spit up on, pooped on, and tugged on by babies, its hard to put on your nicest outfit.

So, inspired by both Six Items or Less (remember this post?) and 30 for 30 challenges, I am making my own challenge for two reasons.

The Reasons
1. I want to have the motivation to look good every day, even when its guaranteed it will get stained, wrinkled, etc. by the little one.
2. I don't have any money for new clothes, so its time to re-vamp what I have and shop my own closet.

The Image Envy Challenge
Take 15 items from my closet and make a new outfit every day, for at least 30 days.

So why am I not following Six Items or Less or 30 for 30?  There is NO way I could do only 6 items, even though some days I feel like I wear the same thing OVER and OVER.  30 for 30 - they include shoes in the 30 items.  If I included just my shoes as an item in the challenge, I'm already getting close to the maximum amount.  Also, I think both require me to quit shopping for the time being.  But, I'm a personal shopper.  I'm always shopping! So, onto my own rules!
The Rules
1. Pick 15 items from your closet
  • Things counted as items:  Shirts, Pants, Skirts, Dresses, Sweaters, Outerwear, and even Undershirts
  • Things counted as accessories: Shoes, Scarves, Jewelry, Hats, and Other Miscellaneous Items
  • Things not counted at all: Bras, Underwear, Socks, and Other Necessary Items
2. I can only wear those 15 items for the next 30 days or more.
3. I must wear a new outfit every day.
4. Take a picture every day.
5. At the end of the challenge, write a) what I learned, b) what I would do differently, and c) how this will affect how I shop.

I'm starting March 1st (just three short days!).  Watch my progress and tell me what you think!  What would be your reasons for joining the challenge?  What do you find most difficult about shopping your own closet?

Wish me luck, and happy (closet) shopping!

The Oscars!

This Sunday is the Oscars!  I can't wait to see what everyone is wearing and I love Anne Hathaway's dress in the ads.  It complements her figure perfectly!

Last year my favorite dress was worn by Sandra Bullock and this year I'm keeping my eye out for nominees Natalie Portman, Amy Adams, and Nicole Kidman.  Who are you expecting to wow the red carpet this year?

Project Runway's Christian Siriano

It's hard to keep track of all the Project Runway winners, especially of earlier seasons.  But Christian Siriano, winner of Season 4, has been busy since his debut.  With his trademark "Fierce", Christian has appeared at New York's Fashion Week every year since 2008, designed a maternity line, Fierce Mamas, teamed with Victoria Secret for the VS Makeup line, designed a phone for LG, designed shoes for Payless ShoeSource, wrote a book, Fierce Style: How to Be Your Most Fabulous Self, and even appeared on an episode of Ugly Betty.

Below is his Fall/Winter line for 2011/2012.  I was quite impressed.  From daywear to eveningwear, his show flawlessly transitions between the two, bringing in unexpected colors and even some unexpected trips and falls (see minutes 9:15 and 11:20).

My favorites from the show are below.  What are yours?

Fire Your Flip Flops

Since I've banned flip flops from my closet for the last 2+ years, I LOVE Piperlime's newest ad (along with the shoes)! Why do I agree?  Because there are SO many great shoes out there, do we really need to waste our time with flip flops?  Granted, I no longer live in 100 degree weather, but let's enjoy some sexy strappy sandals or a great pair of flats this year instead!

Enjoy, and follow the advice!  Shop piperlime shoes here.

Must-Have Accessory for the Winter: Bootights

Bootights Womens Designer Herringbone Socks, Black, SmallBootights Womens Mid Calf Tights, Charcoal, MediumBootights Womens Designer Argyle Socks, Black, LargeBootights Womens Mid Calf Tights, Chocolate, Medium
I am guilty.  When its freezing cold outside and I'm in my skirt and boots, I wear both tights and an obnoxious pair of white tennis socks.  It's not a pretty sight if I ever have to take off my shoes to go inside someone's house.  Genius Shelby Mason designed Bootights - a way to never be embarrased of your socks/tights combo again.

Bootights are socks built conveniently into your tights, made specifically for the cold months of boot-wearing.  Coming in a variety of height (ankle or calf), colors (black, chocolate, ro charcoal), and patterns (cable knit, argyle, fishnet, etc.), the right pair of Bootights is out there for you.   Cost averages around $30.00.
